”Are you a friend magnet” Is a booklet with 21 practical pages where students from Preschool class up to year 6 can reflect on their way of being a good friend in an easier and clearer way, how he is a good friend and how he makes friends.
This is an exercise for students to reflect on friendships and how to make friends.
The booklet ”Are you a friend magnet” consists of 40 various cards with short questions with an accompanying picture to support the younger students. Have students cut out the cards from the A4 papers and then have the students paste the notes on the three colored papers that match one themselves as a student. There are also empty notes if you come up with several statements that involve being a good friend. The sentences on the colored papers are ”I always do it”, I do it sometimes ”, I do not do it, yet.” Then you as a teacher can work in different ways with the answers during the lesson, but it is also good to do the exercise several At the end of the semester, you can also make a summary in the class, how far the students have come as an individual.
At the end of the school year, students can then receive a diploma that can be found at the end of the booklet, where you as a teacher summarize the positive qualities that the student has achieved to be a good friend. Or you let the students themselves summarize their results at the end of the academic year on the diploma.
The material ”Friend magnet” is suitable for students throughout primary school and the material is also available in Swedish.
Why is friendship important?
Friendship can have a huge effect on your health and well-being. Good friends are good for your health. They can be there to celebrate when things are going well, and also be there to support you when things are going badly. Having good friends can prevent loneliness and can also keep you company when you need it!
In a school environment, friends can make your students’ lives much easier and help them to the extent that their learning experience can also be improved. Friendships at school can help children improve their self-confidence, self-esteem and can also minimize the risk of bullying!
Friendship is also an integral part of improving young children’s social skills. Interacting with people from different families, backgrounds and beliefs can help a child learn more about the world and society in which they live, so that they can develop feelings of empathy and kindness towards others!
Any examples of things friends do?
Being a good friend means treating the people around you with respect!
Helping the people you care about is also very important to being a good friend. Sharing and being kind to others and making them feel comfortable around you is a perfect way to do it!
When a friend is sad or having a hard time, it may be better to be there for them and listen to their problems. It is also important to spend time with your friends, interact with them and have fun!
